Henry L. English, president and CEO of the Black United Fund of Illinois said, “The evening was everything we wanted it to be. We honored amazing individuals and paid homage to “Institution Builders” who live and walk among us. We are proud of these legacies of commitment, devotion and excellence and are thrilled that we had an opportunity to share their journeys and acknowledge those to which they’ve entrusted the future.”
The Special Institutional Award was presented to The DuSable Museum of African American History, and accepted by Pemon Rami, the museum’s director of educational services and public programs in the absence of President, Carol L. Adams, Ph.D.
The event kicks off the BUFI’s payroll deduction campaigns, mentioned in the event book and on BUFI’s website at www.bufi.org, where city, state, county, federal and corporate employees select BUFI or one of 43 nonprofits to which they devote a portion of their earnings. English shared that, “These campaigns prove that we are generous as a community in supporting nonprofits such as the Jackie Robinson West Little League and many other organizations, some which would not be here today if not for many employees choosing a ‘donor’s choice’ option or selecting BUFI and our affiliates to help those that need assistance most.”
