The Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic is always a vibrant, dramatic contest between the football teams, Grambling State University of Louisiana and Prairie View A&M University of Texas. But the truth is, it’s not simply about who makes the most touchdowns or interceptions, it’s largely about who has the best show at halftime, also known as the battle of the bands showdown. This year, McDonald’s added even more fun and excitement to the mix with their HBCU VIP Game Experience along with dance contest, great prizes including iPads, and Beats by Dre headphones to name a few plus lots of chances to win even more.

SES_8399The classic showdown began in the 1940s and has been at Fair Park annually since the 1980s. It is considered the largest social event of the year for both schools, attracting some 65,000 fans to Dallas. McDonald’s is committed to historically black colleges and universities and continues their support by partnering and giving back in ways that matter.

McDonald’s had a designated area in the stadium for 100 lucky fans. Once you were in your seat, you were treated with goody bags with lots of treats and chances to participate in the game experience. The party extended to the McDonald’s booth where the DJ was spinning and there were dance contests and loads of opportunities to rep your school and style. Even Ronald McDonald was on the scene, joining in the festivities and he also was on the field to present the scholarship checks.

The fun and party didn’t end after the game … McDonald’s joined forces with the Cajun Family and HBCU alumni for the after game Soulful Classic Social, where the “Fry Box” was the place to be. By tweeting selfies with the fry bo,x guests were entered to win $500.
