A man in Brooklyn, New York, allegedly killed his 3-year-old stepdaughter because he smelled her dirty diaper. According to News 12 Brooklyn, Kelsey Smith, 20, was watching Jeida Torres while her mother was at work.
Smith and Torres’ mother had recently married and were staying at a homeless facility until they could save money for a place to stay. Torres allowed Smith to watch Jeida and her 5-year-old brother.
Smith smelled Jeida and began yelling at the toddler. He grabbed the young girl’s head and slammed it into a bedpost. Smith then began choking the toddler as her 5-year-old brother watched. Smith then beat Jeida’s brother.
When authorities arrived at the scene, Jeida was unconscious. The medical examiner ruled the girl’s death a homicide and said that girl died form blunt force trauma to her head.
Smith fled the scene and went to his mother’s home where he attempted to slit his wrist. However, he only injured himself and is expected to survive. Smith’s mother called authorities and he was arrested en route to the hospital.
Once he recovers, Smith will face murder charges. He had 15 prior arrests before the incident.
