Common tapped to host new Spike TV show

Common

Throughout the span of his 20 plus year career as a chart topping rapper, Common has gradually added more and more slashes to his title. The rapper, actor, author, and designer can now add the title TV host to his resume as well.

Spike TV recently announced that the Chicago native will host a new furniture design competition show called “Framework.”

The show will feature 13 contestants competing over a ten week period in which they’ll have to design furniture from odd and unconventional materials. The last designer standing will take home a $100,000 grand prize in addition to having their pieces sold by a large retailer.

Executives at Spike TV say that having the “Universal Mind Control” rapper as host seemed like a natural fit.

“No stranger to outstanding work, Common has inspired audiences through music, movies, television, books and his philanthropy,” says a Spike TV rep in a press release. “In addition to his music, film, and literary pursuits, Common has been the face, voice and inspiration behind some of the largest consumer brands in the country.”

“Framework” is set debut on the Spike TV channel Jan. 5, 2015, at 10 p.m. EST.
