Bobby Shmurda’s attorney says the government is out to get him

Attorney Howard Greenberg thinks his client, rapper Bobby Shmurda, is being railroaded.

Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Jean Pollard, was arrested along with members of his GS9 crew, on Dec.17, and charged with a number of crimes including conspiracy to commit second degree murder and conspiracy to commit second degree assault.

Reports shortly after the arrest said that Shmurda’s record company, Epic Records, would pay the “Hot Boy” rapper’s two million dollar bail but thus far that hasn’t happened and Shmurda spent Christmas on RIkers Island.

Greenberg tells the Fader that Shmurda’s charges fail to make sense and the government is hell bent on bringing him down:

The government hates rap and the government hates rappers. They construct a narrative and add rationalizations to make it seem true. They recruit guiltless and loveless people to whom truth is meaningless and convince them to say what they want to say. These people are jealous of a brother on the way up. My guy’s rich, he’s busy. He’s always on tour. He’s supposedly leader of this crew, but he’s not charged with any violence. Use your head, it doesn’t make any sense. I’m not going to let them crucify Bobby Shmurda

According to the authorities, the GS9 crew was the subject of a two year investigation resulting in the arrest of Shmurda and 14 others.

If convicted Bobby Shmurda is facing 8 to 25 years.
