There were several intriguing storylines in 2014. LeBron James returned to Cleveland after four years in Miami; Donald Sterling shocked the nation with his racist rant; Russell Wilson led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory; and Kevin Ollie led the UCONN Huskies to an NCAA championship.
In 2015, there will be bigger storylines and action.
Here are five bold sports predictions for 2015.
LeBron James or Kevin Love will leave the Cleveland Cavs at the end of the season
The Cleveland Cavs appeared to be NBA title contenders when it was announced that LeBron James would return home and Kevin Love joined the team after the Cavs traded Andrew Wiggins. However, the new “Big 3” of James, Love and Kyrie Irving have struggled with team chemistry. The Cavs have looked awful on defense and James appears to be going through the motions at times. The Cavs have time to turn thing around, but one of their top stars could leave if they don’t show improvement by the end of the season.
Floyd Mayweather will finally fight Manny Pacquaio
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio have found ways to avoid fighting each other for the last five years. Now that Mayweather is running out of opponents to fight, he needs Pacquaio to agree to sign on for a bout. It will take place in May or September of 2015.
Three Black coaches will be hired by NFL teams
This year, there are about seven Black coaches who deserve to be hired by an NFL team. However, there are three who will likely get a shot. Teryl Austin (Detroit Lions); Todd Bowles (Arizona Cardinals); and Hue Jackson (Bengals) will be NFL head coaches in 2015.
Jameis Winston will fall in the NFL Draft
Jameis Winston of Florida State University has the talent of a No.1 overall pick. However, his pathetic play against Oregon State University in the College Football Playoffs and ongoing off the field issues will damage his NFL Draft status. He should be the second quarterback drafted, but teams may stay away from Winston in the first round.
The Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors will meet in the NBA Finals
The Atlanta Hawks have been a joke of a franchise since the days of Dominique Wilkins. The Golden State Warriors have struggled to get past the second round of the playoffs since its resurgence. Both teams will meet up in the 2015 NBA Finals.
