Actress Viola Davis holds her 2015 SAG Award

It was a big night at the 2015 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for TV actresses Viola Davis (“How To Get Away With Murder”) and Uzo Aduba (“Orange Is The New Black”). Both women gave phenomenal and moving speeches in light of the outcries in Hollywood over the lack of diversity among the Oscar nominations.

After her name was called to claim her title for outstanding actress in a TV series, Davis gracefully strolled on stage and gave an empowering acceptance speech. “I’d like to thank Paul Lee, Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Bill D’Elia and Peter Nowalk for thinking that a sexualized messy, mysterious woman could be a 49-year-old dark-skinned African-American woman who looks like me.”

She added, “And thank you to all the people who love me exactly how God made me,” this includes husband Julius, daughter Genesis, 3, and her mother, Mary Alice Logan.

Aduba, who was one of the first big winners of the evening, snagged the supporting female actor win.

“I just really, really, really truly want to say, the day I got this job was the day I stopped acting and to be in a room with all you amazing human beings, amazing talents, for what I respect so much and love so much, is really truly the greatest honor,” she said tearfully.
