Michael Sam, sadly, may not be joining an NFL team anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean that the NFL’s first openly gay player to be drafted won’t get to flex his athletic skills on national TV.
According to TMZ, Sam has now signed on as a cast member of season 20 of “Dancing With the Stars,” which is set to begin production next month.
However, Sam’s alleged new TV venture isn’t without some controversy.
Sam has been adamant about his unshakable determination to make it onto an NFL roster and vowed he’d take part in the first-ever veteran’s combine on March 22, which will be held in the Arizona Cardinals’ training facility in Phoenix and allow veteran free agents to participate in position-specific drills, timing and testing, and other customary combine activities so teams can evaluate them against one another.
However, if Sam appears on “Dancing With the Stars,” he may not have enough time to prep for the combine and team owners may question if he’s focused enough to be a viable candidate for a spot on a team.
Hopefully, Sam can find a proper balance and still prove he has enough talent to play on the gridiron next season.
