Singer Charmayne “Maxee” Maxwell, of the ’90s R&B group Brownstone, died Friday night, members of her family have confirmed. According to authorities, the 46-year-old’s death occurred after her son’s soccer game and has been attributed to a freak fall.
She “died in the most terrible way,” her brother, Brandon Maxwell, tweeted Saturday night. “R.I.P to my beautiful sister Charmayne “Maxee” Maxwell. I’m so devastated because you deserved to stay on this earth much longer. You had such an amazing talent and you went really far with your singing career. I felt so inspired from you and it gave me motivation to become the best performer I could be. I love you so much sis, I’m so grateful I was able to have you in my life.” Wrote Brandon Maxwell, of his big sister via Instagram.
“Charmayne had come home from her son’s soccer game, and was home alone with him. Later in the evening … around 9 p.m. her husband, music producer Carsten Soulshock, came home and found her unconscious and bleeding.
“We’re told it looked like Charmayne had fallen and cut her neck on glass … she was bleeding profusely, but still had a pulse. Carsten called 911, and paramedics transported her to Cedars Sinai Hospital … but she had lost too much blood. We’re told she died on the way to the hospital.”
LAPD later returned to the home where they discovered a broken wine glass that they believe sliced Maxwell’s neck. Authorities do not suspect foul play.
Maxwell performed with Brownstone for more than a decade. The girl group was best known for hits like “If You Love Me,” “Grapevyne” and their Eagles cover song, “I Can’t Tell You Why.”
