Relax, sports fans, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is alive and well!

According to UCLA Health, the Los Angeles Lakers alum has successfully undergone quadruple coronary bypass surgery. In a statement issued on April 17 on behalf of the retired professional basketball player, Abdul-Jabbar was admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center earlier this week with cardiovascular disease, where Dr. Richard Shemin, chief of cardiac surgery, performed the operation on Thursday.

Shemin tells UCLA Health that the procedure was successful and he expects the 68-year-old athlete to make a full recovery. Per the press release, the former NBA baller thanked the surgical team, staff and his alma mater, UCLA, for his excellent care. He added that he hopes to return to his regular activities soon.

Should you desire to send well wishes to Abdul-Jabbar, he asks that fans show their support for others who may be struggling with similar health issues. The statement concluded by stating no additional statements or interviews will be given about  Abdul-Jabbar’s condition.
