A man who was beaten by police on April 9 has settled for nearly $1 million. According to NBC 4 in San Bernardino, California, Francis Pusok, 30, was being served a warrant for identity theft when he ran from police officers.

During the three-hour chase, Pusok stole a horse and continued to flee as police followed in pursuit. With media helicopters capturing the chase, Pusok was cornered by police after he fell off the horse. Officers used a stun gun on Pusok and handcuffed his wrists and ankles. He was also punched and his head was pressed to the ground as he gasped for air.

Pusok was hospitalized and charged with theft of a horse, possession of stolen property, and felony evading. The video of his beating went viral and the FBI began investigating the 10 officers involved.

On April 21, San Bernardino County officials approved a $650,000 settlement to be awarded to Pusok. The county wanted to avoid a lawsuit.

In the past, Pusok had been convicted of animal cruelty after shooting a dog in front of its owner, attempted armed robbery, and resisting arrest.
