And here comes the backlash…
As previously reported, on Friday, June 25, the Supreme Court announced their ruling on same-sex marriage in America, making it legal for gay couples to obtain marriage licenses in all 50 states. Although it seemed like all love at first with celebrities like Tracee Ellis Ross, President Obama and Hilary Clinton weighing in with words of love, we expected there to be other profound consequences, like slander, further discrimination and severe push back.
Now that the news has had some time to settle for folks, we’ve noticed a spike in pure disgust and anger from others who were shocked by the historical SCOTUS decision. Vikings’ cornerback Josh Robinson vented on Twitter where he condemned gay marriage. He took it as far as comparing marriage equality to incest and pedophilia.
“Love is love? So what will we say when the 30yr old loves YOUR 10 year old. When the dad loves HIS 6 year old? It’s different? Yea okay!” the 24-year-old football star wrote Friday. “The day one person makes that stand, some may support, but many will say that’s sick! That day I will say ‘hypocrites.'”
“When did we start defining a word by using that word? Smh. If you really want to know. Love is… 1Cor 13:1-13,” he added citing Bible verses.
Robinson continued to rant with, “In the end EVERYONE has a right to believe what they want to believe. You shared yours, I shared mine. #BelieveiT,” followed by, “‘As a Christian I love EVERYONE and I will always share my beliefs we may not agree and that’s ok. God is love, 1 John 4:8.'”
Unfortunately, as a believer of Christ myself, I believe Robinson’s total lack of compassion only continued to make the church look hypocritical, as I don’t believe these are the words of “love” God would have chosen. What do you think about Robinson’s response to same-sex marriage? Sound off in the comment section below.
