Laverne Cox has become a style icon in her own right thanks to her head-turning red carpet looks and Amazonian frame. But during a recent interview on “Watch What Happens Live,” Cox got to take a break from discussing her own looks to discussing the fashion of new trans icon Caitlyn Jenner.
While chatting with host Andy Cohen, Cox explained that she was happy about Jenner’s style choices.
“I think she looks great. I love what she’s wearing. I think she recently wore Leger. I wear Leger a lot. Go, Caitlyn,” Cox said.
Fellow guest Andre Leon Talley chimed in and gave an even more interesting bit of praise to Jenner’s style.
“I think she looks fabulous. I thought she was fabulous on the Vanity Fair cover and I think she looks like a perfect wealthy, affluent White woman who is privileged and that’s important. And she comes from that kind of background. I think she looks fabulous!” Talley said.
But the discussion didn’t just end on a superficial note about Jenner’s looks. Cox also discussed society’s preoccupation with the physical appearance of bio and trans women.
“The reality about that is that that is part of the culture we live in with women who are celebrities…but I think it’s important, particularly when we talk about trans women, that we focus on who the person is beyond who we look like. I’d like to think that I have more to offer beyond what I look like,” Cox said.
