It’s no secret that Universal Pictures has been hard at work on the anticipated film Straight Outta Compton, an N.W.A. biopic set for release next month. And while the flick has already drawn a wide variety of criticism, the project stayed on track, thanks to the cooperation of heavyweights like former N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre along with Tomica Woods-Wright, the widow of fellow N.W.A. rapper Eazy-E.
This morning, however, we were reminded of the rocky road it took to get this project off the ground when an old casting call came across our desk. In the offensive post shared via Facebook by the Sande Alessi Casting company page, the agency made a call for fine “light-skinned,” girls with “long natural hair.” Think Beyonce they continued. The casting call continued to list requirements under a, b, c … and it only got more offensive. Check out the post below.

Although the original Facebook post has since been removed, the page includes other casting calls for the film. Thankfully, we’ve come a long way since this casting call, the project got off the ground (presumably without the help of this agency) and hits theaters on Aug. 14. Will you buy a ticket?
