CyHi The Prynce briefly took the focus off of the Drake vs. Meek Mill rap beef by releasing a scathing attack on his mentor Kanye West.

On “Elephant in the Room,” CyHi takes aim at West, Pusha T, Big Sean, and Def Jam. Overall, it’s more of an imaginative open letter to Kanye than a diss record.

“Elephant in the Room” came out at a time when some people on social media speculated that the Atlanta-based rapper had been dropped from Def Jam. There has yet to be an official announcement regarding the matter, but CyHi reveals his frustrations with being signed to Kanye and Def Jam.

Here are five things to know about CyHi The Prynce’s beef with Kanye West.

CyHi is one of Kanye’s favorite ghostwriters

CyHi often contributes to Kanye’s biggest hits by serving as a ghostwriter. He contributed as a writer on Kanye’s “New Slaves”, “Black Skinhead,” and “Bound 2,” just to name a few.

CyHi’s big break came after Beyoncé approved of his verse on “Appalled”

CyHi got a major push from Beyoncé, who told Kanye she was a fan of CyHi’s verse on the 2010 song “Appalled.” Back in 2010, it appeared as if the Beyoncé co-sign would lead to a promising career.

CyHi has yet to be featured on a prominent song with Kanye West since “Appalled”

Although CyHi served as a ghostwriter for Kanye, their voices haven’t been heard on the same song since 2011. A verse from Kanye may have given CyHi the radio push that he needed to get a larger fan base.

CyHi has remained on the shelf since 2011

CyHi has released seven superb mixtapes since being signed to G.O.O.D. Music. However, he has yet to release an official album as a solo artist. When compared to other G.O.O.D. Music artists, CyHi is arguably the crew’s best lyricist, save for Common.

CyHi must also take some of the blame

At a time when Atlanta rappers are the hottest rappers in the world, CyHi has yet to establish himself as one of the top recognized artists in the city. Some of that is his label’s fault, but there are a slew of independent artists from Atlanta who have achieved national radio play on their own. CyHi is only missing the breakout hit single that could change his life.
