White House staffer goes into jealous rage and fires boyfriend’s gun

Barvetta Singletary, 37, who serves as a special assistant to President Obama, is accused of firing her U.S. Capitol Police officer boyfriend’s service weapon during an argument on Friday, police said.

Singletary allegedly was upset with her boyfriend and accused him of cheating. NBC Washington reports that the White House staffer lured her boyfriend to her Upper Marlboro, Md., home for sex via a text. In her jealous rage, she became irate when he wouldn’t give her his password to access his cell phone. She allegedly grabbed his .40 caliber Glock 23 weapon from his bag.

She fired a shot into the sofa where he was sitting. He alleges she attempted to wipe away the fingerprints from the weapon before he dialed 911.

She was arrested on the scene and charged with domestic violence

A special assistant to the President and House Legislative Affairs Liaison, Singletary has been placed on unpaid leave, and her access to the White House complex has been revoked pending an investigation.
