The greatest challenge to the presidential bid for Hillary Clinton has been the use of a private email server. Republican opponents of Clinton have jumped on the possibility that she violated laws concerning sensitive and perhaps top secret information by keeping government emails on private servers. The US State Department has now confirmed that Clinton broke no laws with her use of servers.

State Department spokesperson John Kirby stated on CNN that “she was not violating policy.” Like many past Secretary of State office holders, which included Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, private email servers were used not to bypass security but rather to integrate an antiquated technology to perform better with today’s fast moving technology. At the request of the FBI, Clinton turned over her private servers to the agency as part of an initial investigation. Clinton’s critics have looked to this issue as a scandal that could derail her candidacy but these new revelations seem to have cleared her of possible charges.
