How far would you go to save the life of your child if he or she was stricken with cancer? A Detroit father decided to take matters into his own hands after his daughter needed money to pay for her cancer treatments.

According to a report by ABC News, Brian Randolph, 23, was desperate to help his 1-year-old daughter who has retinoblastoma. The condition is a cancer that affects the eyes. Randolph discovered that his insurance company would no longer pay for his daughter’s chemotherapy treatment. With his daughter scheduled for another treatment, Randolph needed to find a fast way to get money.

On Aug. 12, Randolph robbed the Vibe Credit Union in South Lyon, Michigan. He handed the bank teller a note demanding money and told them he had a gun on him. Randolph was later arrested, but police didn’t find a gun.

He told authorities he robbed the bank as a last effort to pay for his child’s cancer treatments. Randolph has been charged with armed robbery and his bail was set at $500K.
