Barry B.: The Stars Barber

What inspired you to become a barber?

As a child, my mother would have my brother cut my hair. Needless to say, my haircuts were less than desirable. After doing some major complaining, my mom allowed me the opportunity to begin cutting my own hair.

What makes your services more special than other barbers?
First and foremost, I take pride in my craft. I am very meticulous in my appearance, so I am sensitive in providing special care to my clients. Each client starts with a consultation. From that, we discuss what will make the client’s hair healthy and physically appealing.  We are very purposeful of the products that we use. Whether you have dry scalp, need color enhancements or simply a shave, we will provide you with the best experience.

With there being so many barbers in the industry,  how do you maintain your brand?

Our barbershop is always clean beyond the industry requirements. It is designed and furnished to ensure comfort for the clients. We pride ourselves on the level of professionalism we provide. The level of training in our craft keeps us on the cutting edge of the classic cuts and trends.

At what point did you realize that you had what it takes to be successful as a barber?

I realized that I had a bright future in this industry when my customers became clients. With that said, they kept coming back. Most clients take the time and refer their friends, family and colleagues to be serviced by me.

What advice do you have for others who find interest in this profession?

It is critical to be professional at all times. Your personal appearance and hygiene must be maintained in the grooming business.  Constantly perfecting your craft by taking advanced classes, being innovative and developing alliances will always lead to success.  Finally, it is important to network.

How do you determine what products to use on your clients?

In the grooming business there are so many products to choose from. It is important to know the needs of your clients.  In that, it is necessary to be mindful of the costs that are associated with these products.

Where would you like to see your business in the next five years?

I am so excited about my future as a barber.  Mentoring others who desire to be in the business will be my main platform.  As I open additional grooming lounges, I would have trained my team with the standards of excellence that would ensure growth and success for the business.  I want to create a product line that would be sold internationally.
