Almost 20 years after his death, 2Pac continues to be one of the most fascinating figures in pop music.
Much has been made over the years of 2Pac’s ability to churn out songs at a breakneck pace few could keep up with. It was that same breakneck pace to create that allowed Shakur to constantly record new material, so much so that he would go on to release more albums posthumously than when alive.
Unlike what would prove to be a trend among emcees near the time of his death, 2Pac meticulously wrote out all his lyrics. London’s popular Sotherby auction house will soon auction off a few of Shakur’s lyric sheets to a very lucky collector.
The hand written lyrics to “Ambitionz Az A Ridah” and “Tradin’ War Stories,” both of which are believed to have been written out while Shakur was serving jail time, will be auctioned off with expectations to sell for upward of $100K.
“[Shakur] is a fixture of enormous popularity and great cultural significance, so we are confident there’ll be a lot of interest,” said Gabriel Heaton, a specialist in books and manuscripts at Sotheby’s via statement.
Both handwritten lyric sheets are said to feature 2pac’s signature.
Sotherby’s will auction off the items as part of their Rock & Pop auction on Sept. 29.
