The Perfect Guy proved to have the perfect opening weekend, as it narrowly held off M. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit to claim the title of number one movie in America this weekend.

Reports indicate that an overwhelming female audience of 68 percent helped power The Perfect Guy past The Visit with 58 percent of that audience being women over the age of 25.

“It bodes well for the longevity of the film. Not only is it a date movie, but it’s a film that girlfriends are going to go to together as well,” said Sony exec Rory Bruer.

The Sanaa Lathan and Michael Ealy led thriller pulled in an impressive $26.7 million to bow at number one while Shyamalan’s The Visit came in just short with $25.9 million. Last week’s top movie, War Room, fell to number three with $7.4 million earned. The Nick Nolte and Robert Redford buddy comedy, A Walk In The Woods, managed to remain afloat with another $4.6 million pulled in. And rounding out the top five for the second week in a row is Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation with an additional $4.1 million.
