Did Matt Barnes go too far by beating Derek Fisher for dating Gloria Govan?

Matt Barnes was a man on mission. After discovering that his ex-teammate, Derek Fisher, was at the home of his estranged wife, Gloria Govan, Barnes drove three hours to confront Fisher.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Barnes was practicing in Santa Barbara, California, with the Memphis Grizzles when we he went on the road trip to Govan’s home. When he arrived at the home, Barnes began fighting Fisher and left “a few scratches” on the New York Knicks head coach.

Barnes and Govan separated last year and some believe that it affected his game on the court. Although Barnes currently looks like a madman who can’t control his emotions, some may believe that he confronted Fisher for breaking an unwritten guy code.

If Barnes considered Fisher to be a good friend while they were teammates, Barnes likely felt betrayed by Fisher. It’s inappropriate to date a friend’s estranged wife if there appears to still be a connection between the two. Barnes still has deep feelings for Govan and likely has a notion that they will get back together at some point. However, if Govan has truly moved on with her life, it’s time for Barnes to let go and worry about business on the court.

Either way, Fisher should probably leave Govan alone for the time being because it appears to be a toxic situation. The NBA season has yet to officially start and it’s already resembling a drama-filled reality show.
