Black Twitter goes in on the Falcon, after he suggests that Black Panther doesn’t need a Black director.

“I don’t think it’s important at all,” Anthony Mackie said during an interview with The Daily Beast. “As a director your job is to tell a story. You know, they didn’t get a horse to direct Seabiscuit!”

The actor went on to clarify his comment: “The thing is I don’t think the race of the director has to do with their ability to tell a story. I think it’s all about the director’s ability to be able to relate to that story and do it justice. I think men can direct women, and two of my greatest work experiences were with female directors. So I think it all depends. May the best man — or woman — win.”

Unfortunately for Mackie, his comments weren’t well-received on social media. In fact, they made him appear to be the odd man out, again. While some found his “Seabiscuit” reference hilarious, others slammed the 37-year-old for simply have an opinion. After all, Twitter won’t let you live, if you take a stand different than their own:

What do you think of Mackie’s stance on the upcoming Black Panther film: funny or not so much? Sound off in the comment section below.
