French-born performers Laurent and Larry Bourgeois, better known as Les Twins, identical twin brothers who most famously have performed and toured with Beyoncé and Jay Z, are just as energetic off the stage as they are on it. We learned this when rolling out spoke exclusively with the dance sensations after their last performance at the Breakin’ Convention, an international festival of hip-hop dance theater that took place at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem.

“We have no idols; we are not fans of anybody,” Laurent says, only to be corrected by his brother.

“I’m a fan of a lot of people,” Larry says, and the friendly debate begins.

“We’re not fans; we appreciate a lot of people, but I am not a fan,” Laurent says, only to be countered

“That’s not what you said to Beyoncé,” says Larry before recalling a story in which Queen Bey said she was a fan of the dancers.

“That’s true,” Laurent finally relents, but counters with, “The way I speak French I don’t use the word fan.”

Babies and Jackie Chan are two sources of inspiration for Les Twins. It is the movement of babies that brings that inspiration. And though Chan seems to be an unusual source of inspiration, seeing outtakes of the actor and martial artist performing his own stunts, and failing, provided a source of creativity.

Headlining at the Apollo Theater was a dream come true for Les Twins, who have performed on many of the world’s most historical stages. “You have to understand this, brother; we are black, and we are from the hood,” Laurent says of their upbringing in Sarcelles, France. The pair compared headlining the Apollo to headlining a stage in their native Sarcelles, one of their performances that made their mom most proud.

In the near future, Les Twins hopes to branch into music and movies. Laurent and Larry are in the right circles to make any project successful, and they certainly have an abundance of energy, on and off the stage, to dedicate to their craft.
