Tidal has struck another exclusive agreement that it hopes will help further separate it from fellow streaming contemporaries like Apple and Spotify.
The company recently ordered a comedy series, “No Small Talk,” and a gritty drama, “Money & Violence” (Season 2) to its growing selection of content that includes access to over 36 million songs, 86,000 music videos, curated playlists, short films, and livestreams.
Hosted by popular DJ and television personality Cipha Sounds and produced exclusively for Tidal, “No Small Talk” will profile three up and coming comedians that perform at Manhattan’s Comedy Cellar in 25-30 minute episodes.
“(These are) the next guys I think will blow up,” said Cipha Sounds. “I didn’t want it to feel polished like the standup specials you see on TV. My goal is to help new guys get known, like ‘Def Comedy Jam’ set up a lot of people’s careers.”
As for the drama, “Money & Violence” takes a detailed look at the lives of a group of Flatbush, Brooklyn drug dealers and thieves. The series originally got traction on YouTube, where creator Moise Verneau bankrolled the entire first season out of his own pocket.
“It was a project of passion,” Verneau said. “This was something I put forward because I thought there was a voice missing for the younger generation.”
Tidal put in an order for the second season of 12 episodes and will stream it exclusively for a week before it’s available to other outlets. Season one of the series is currently available on Tidal with exclusive extras and commentary.
“No Small Talk” is now playing on Tidal with season two “Money & Violence” set to premiere in January.
