For years now, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” has been the only branch of the “Real Housewives” franchise to feature a majority Black cast. But that’s about to change next year as Bravo recently announced that they’re launching “The Real Housewives of Potomac” in January.
If you’re scratching your head wondering where Potomac is, it’s a wealthy, upscale suburb located just up the river from Washington, D.C. Although the Black community there is small, the cast reflects the upper-class Black families who have broken race barriers by residing in Potomac.
According to Bravo, the cast will feature “socialite and single mom Gizelle Bryant, international model and TV personality Katie Rost, grand dame Karen Huger, social butterfly Charrisse Jackson-Jordan, publicist and single mom Robyn Dixon, as well as restaurateur Ashley Darby.”
In the nearly two-minute trailer for the debut season of the show, fans get a glimpse into the lifestyle of these Potomac women, which they claim revolves around class, etiquette and the distinction between “old money” vs. “new money.”
“If you don’t behave yourself in Potomac, you might be asked to leave,” Rost says about Potomac.
Of course, cameras seem to catch the ladies displaying their worst behavior as they argue over everything from issues over Rost identifying as a biracial woman, catfights at parties, and inappropriate comments about enlarged clitorises.
It looks like Bravo has a new batch of upscale women ready to turn up the drama on TV, and since ratings for “RHOA” have dropped since NeNe Leakes’ departure, it looks like the hunt for the next big “Housewives” franchise and star is on.
