Former Oklahoma City cop found guilty of heinous crimes against Black women

Former Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw has been found guilty on 18 of 36 counts of sexual misconduct on his 29th birthday. Holtzclaw used his position with the Oklahoma City Police Department to force women to have sex with him. The ages of the victims ranged from 17 to 57. All of the victims except one was Black. The victims were all assaulted while Holtzclaw was on patrol. Many of the women had outstanding warrants and he threatened them with jail time if they spoke a word of what he did to them. Thirteen of the women took the stand and told very similar stories. Holtzclaw’s youngest victim was 17 years old and he raped her on her mother’s porch.

As the verdict was read Holtzclaw sat with his head down visibly nervous as his layers flanked him. He began sobbing uncontrollably after the first guilty verdict was read. After all of the verdicts were read the amount of time he could potentially spend in jail totaled 263 years. He was immediately handcuffed and taken to his jail, Formal sentencing has been set for Jan. 16, 2016.
