2. We love storytelling
Women are the more verbal of the sexes, so naturally, we gravitate to those who give us the verbal intercourse of creative nuances and crafty metaphors. Great storytelling keeps us intrigued and feeds our fascination with mental stimulation. Old-school hip-hop music mastered the delicate balance between dope beats and mind-blowing rhymes. No diss to new-school hip-hop music’s storytelling, but the diversity in the style of today’s artists is limited. As Lauryn Hill sang in her song, “Superstar,” “Hip-hop started out in the heart, now everybody trying to chart.” There has always been and always will be, artists who are more attracted to the fame game than they are to maintaining the purity of the craft. Artists like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Wale, and Big Sean have managed to maintain that purity by producing thought-provoking material.
