Harry Potter fans worldwide mourn the loss of Alan Rickman, a brilliant actor who made Professor Snape so very memorable.

Rickman was a popular British actor known for his villainous role. According to his family, “The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends.” Rickman had a distinguished career starring in major films such as Harry Potter, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Dogma, Die Hard, Galaxy Quest and the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy among others; his stage credits are just as long and distinguished.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling described him as “a magnificent actor and a wonderful man” and tweeted, “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death.”
