He may have played a super villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but when it comes to his off screen life, Jamie Foxx is a real life hero. On Monday, Jan. 17, the Oscar winner reportedly rescued Brett Kyle, 32, whose Toyota Tacoma pickup truck crashed and caught fire in front of the actor’s home in Hidden Valley, Calif.
According to authorities, Foxx rushed to the scene after the driver lost control of the vehicle while driving “at a high rate of speed,” skid off the road and flipped the car, which then burst into flames at around 8:30 p.m.
After calling 911, Fox, 48, pulled the man, who was buckled in, out of the burning vehicle. The victim only suffered minor injuries and was rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately for Kyle, he was later arrested “for driving under the influence,” said police. The accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark Area Office.
Foxx has not yet commented on the incident. Meanwhile, neither California Highway Patrol Officer Marco Marin nor Ventura County Fire Dept. spokesman Capt. Mike Lindbery would confirm or deny Foxx’s rescue effort. However, Lindbery did reveal that the Ventura County Fire Dept. responded to a traffic incident in the area, and a 911 caller informed dispatchers that civilians had pulled the driver to safety.
“When fire crews arrived on scene just one minute later, they reported the vehicle as fully involved in fire,” Lindbery told CNN. “The patient was taken to the hospital with burn injuries. There was no one else in the truck … It was a pretty courageous thing to do — It’s rare these days that you find someone willing to jump in to help like that.”
There’s nothing like a little hope in humankind to get you over the hump day. Shout out to Mr. Foxx for his heroic efforts.
