This week, former talk show host and supermodel Tyra Banks shocked fans when she announced that she is a new mom. “The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here,” she shared via Instagram alongside a snap of baby clothes. “He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin. As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world.”
Boyfriend Erik Asla added, “Witnessing the dawn of life is possibly life’s greatest gift.”
Recently, Banks opened up about her fertility struggles on a segment of her now-canceled show, “FABlife.” After Chrissy Teigen shared her struggle trying to get pregnant, Banks added, “I want to co-sign what Chrissy is saying and say ‘You have no idea what people are going through. Why am I crying? You just have no idea what people are going through, so when you ask Chrissy [why don’t you have kids] or me that or anybody that, it is none of your frigging business, OK?”
Surprisingly, Banks is just one of many celebs who while facing fertility issues or juggling hectic careers, took advantage of the growing popularity in surrogacy as a way to jump-start their families. From Sarah Jessica Parker to Neil Patrick Harris to Angela Bassett, below is a list of stars who have used a surrogate.
