Well-known TV Judge Greg Mathis was recently honored as Man of the Year by the Daughters of Incarcerated Mothers project in Detroit. He was honored for his leadership and continued support in the Detroit community. The event was held at the Roostertail in Downtown Detroit and brought out some of the city’s most notable dignitaries, socialites and the like. The event’s attire was formal dress and everyone there was impeccably dressed, including the man of honor and his lovely wife, Linda.The second-annual DIM Project fundraiser was organized by its founder, Detroit radio personality Mildred Gaddis and is a newly established nonprofit that aims to help to raise funds for girls whose mothers are incarcerated.


Judge Mathis attended the event with his wife and two of his four children. The judge is well known for his philanthropy and tremendous work in the community with the Mathis Community Center that he founded. His community center is home to several organizations that aim to help young men: Young Men N Motion, Inc., Inspiring Our Sons, and Building Better Men. They also work with legal aid to assist many ex-offenders with expungement and host numerous workshops and meetings that are geared towards creating a better community.


“There’s no bigger honor than the one in which your hometown lifts you up and recognizes your efforts,” said Mathis of receiving the Man of the Year award.

The event called out many of Detroit’s who’s who, which included long time serving U.S. Representative John Conyers (D-Detroit), Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (D-Southfield), Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles, Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones, and Swanson Funeral Home CEO O’Neil Swanson. Phaedra Parks of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” reality TV show also graced the event with her presence.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the DIM Project, a self-development program for young girls whose mothers are incarcerated, which will launch in March according to the program’s founder. Donations to the Daughters of Incarcerated Mothers can be sent to the EMG Foundation, 615 Griswold, Suite 400, Detroit, MI 48226.
