The Flint water crisis is still affecting the lives of thousands in this Michigan city. Two years ago, the state of Michigan made a decision to switch the water supply to a nearby river in order to save money. This decision has resulted in sick children and a water supply filled with lead. Aid has come from the likes of Beyonce, P Diddy and concerned citizens from around the nation. Every bottle of water and every dollar is necessary so the fundraisers must continue. Emcee, published writer and activist YoNasDa Lonewolf in partnership with Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church is leading an initiative called Hip-Hop 4 Flint to address the needs of the people of Flint.

The Hip-Hop 4 Flint coalition will host a global fundraising event on March 19, 2016 to raise funds to purchase home water filtration systems for residents that will filter both lead and bacteria throughout the entire home, making the water safe for both consumption and washing. Each city will gather their leaders and youth in the hip-hop community to host an event to collect monetary donations to purchase water filters. All donations will go towards the purchase of filters, which will be delivered personally, home by home, to the residents of Flint by the Hip-Hop 4 Flint delegation.

The event will feature hip-hop artists from across the country. Some of the notable artists include GLC of G.O.O.D Music, Nappy Roots, Rahzel The Beatboxer, Mysonne, Kaleena from “Love and Hip Hop,” Hakim Green of Channel Live, and Du “Doitall” Kelly of the legendary group Lords of the Underground. The event will take place simultaneously across the country from cities Chicago to Portland.
