NBA rookie D’Angelo Russell has destroyed his credibility with other players in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers guard recently broke a vital man-code law that could haunt him for the rest of his career.
In a cell phone video recorded by Russell, he is having a conversation with teammate Nick Young about his relationships. Young is sitting on a bed in a hotel room and doesn’t realize that he’s being recorded. Russell asked Young about sexual encounter he had in the summer. Young, 30, reveals that he slept with a 19-year-old girl this past summer after a night out at a club. Young is engaged to rapper Iggy Azalea. Russell then asks Young if he ever slept with Amber Rose. Young responds by revealing that he never slept with Rose because she knows his girl, Azalea.
Azalea responded on Twitter by saying that she liked Russell’s video. It could likely end her relationship with Young after the couple were engaged to be married.
Russell was apparently attempting to prank Young, but it didn’t go over well with his teammates. Reportedly, the Los Angeles Lakers have isolated Russell. He recently was forced to sit alone during a team breakfast and players are not speaking with him while in the locker room.
Coach Byron Scott recently said that Russell has talent, but is immature and seems like he is “20 going on 14.” It may take years for Russell to regain the trust of teammates. The locker room is viewed as a sacred place for athletes. If his teammates view him as untrustworthy, it will affect play on the court. The Lakers recently lost by 48 points to the Utah Jazz and will complete the season with the worst record in team history.
Kobe Bryant is likely counting down the moments when he suits up for the final game of his NBA career in a few days.
