The United Center in Chicago filled up with fans of high school basketball waiting to see the future of professional basketball. The McDonald’s All American Games is an event that features the greatest high school basketball players in the country. This was the 39th annual boys game and the 15 annual girls game.
The girls game proved to be worth the price of admission. The Girls West forced an overtime after being down in the 3rd quarter and ended up winning the game in overtime mainly because of the play of their star player Sabrina Ionescu. Ionescu won MVP of the girls game because of her stellar play. The Girls West won in overtime 97-88.
The McDonald’s All American Games has produced alumni such as Lebron James, Derrick Rose, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Durant and soon to be Hall Of Famer Kobe Bryant.
The first half of the boys game was high flying. The East took advantage of the breakaways; however, by halftime the West team was up 52-47.
After halftime, the West had no problem building a double digit lead into the fourth quarter. In the true fashion of any All Star game, the defense was nonexistent and the East was able to make it look respectable. The final score was 114-107 in favor of the West.
Frank and Josh Jackson shared the MVP trophy. Both of them scored 19 points. Lonzo Ball set a record for assists with 13 dishes to his teammates on the West.
Frank Jackson has committed to Duke. Lonzo Ball will be taking his talents to UCLA. Josh Jackson has yet to make his announcement. In the press conference he mentioned he would like to make the announcement around his family. Rumor has it that Michigan State has been going after him.
