Congrats are in order for “Empire” costars Grace Gealey and Trai Byers.
The couple, who got engaged in July, are officially off the market, reports TMZ. “It was a beautiful wedding filled with family and close friends,” a source told E! News of the pair who tied the knot in a private ceremony in a mega mansion on Grand Cayman Island Thursday, April 14. “Some cast members from Empire were there. Grace looked stunning.”
Surrounded by 50-plus friends and family, the “beautiful” bride wore a form-fitting, strappy wedding gown. Meanwhile, guests dined on steak and lobster and danced to hip-hop, disco and reggae music at the reception.
Gealey, 31, and Byers, 32, announced their engagement last summer. The dynamic duo celebrated her birthday with a romantic dinner at a Chicago restaurant, during which about 20 of her friends and family members surprised her, a source told E! News at the time.
While Byers and Gealey have generally kept quiet about their relationship, Ms. Anika opened up about their romance during an appearance on the now cancelled on “FABLife,” in October. “I think that if two people are mature and they’re able to understand that if this doesn’t work out – cause first, I’m not a fan of flings when you work, cause that’s where it gets a little dangerous,” she said.
Adding, “I think that if you do get involved – I keep wanting to say on set – I think that if you do get involved at your workplace you have to know that this is something that you want to be invested in, and this is just not just something that is frivolous and fleeting,” she continued.
On FOX’s “Empire,” Gealey plays Anika Calhoun, aka “Boo Boo Kitty,” arch nemesis to Taraji P. Henson’s character Cookie Lyon. During season one, Ms. Anika was engaged to Cookie’s ex and Byer’s character Andre Lyon’s father, Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard. It is unclear if Howard or Henson attended the wedding festivities. In the meantime, show the couple some congratulatory love in the comment section below.
