A “stunned and heartbroken” Will Smith is paying his respects to Prince.

On Thursday, April 21, the world lost the magic that is Prince. The iconic pop star died at age 57 at his Paisley Park studio in Minnesota. Authorities found him unresponsive in an elevator and were unable to revive him. The tragedy comes on the heels of reports that the singer’s jet made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois, just days before, where he was treated at a nearby hospital.

While his death remains under investigation, the world has begun to mourn his loss. Among those shocked by the “Purple Rain” crooner’s loss was Smith, 47. “I am stunned and heartbroken,” the Concussion actor wrote via Facebook. “I just spoke with him last night. Today, Jada & I mourn with all of you the loss of a beautiful poet, a true inspiration, and one of the most magnificent artists to ever grace this earth.”

Echoing her husband’s sentiment, Jada Pinkett Smith, 44, penned a heartfelt tribute of her own, honoring the prolific musician. “Prince was one of the first artists to put me on game in regard to the industry,” she wrote on Facebook. “He was not only a genius artist, he was kind, funny, beautifully eccentric, curious, imaginative, magical, spiritual, rebellious and extremely intelligent.”

“He showed me early the power of living one’s life by one’s own rules and no one else’s,” she added. “There are really no words to express what we have all lost today. To quote my friend Paress, ‘Music has lost its heart beat.’ Rest in peace, Beauty … Jada.”

Of course, the Smith family is not alone. Prince fans are honoring the late star with block parties across the nation, from Brooklyn to Minneapolis. While we’re all stunned by his sudden death, one thing’s for sure, his spirit will live on.
