Few other things have been as shocking thus far this year in music than Beyoncé revealing in her new visual album, Lemonade, that Jay Z cheated on her during their marriage with at least one woman whom Bey refers to as ‘Becky with the good hair.” And since the album’s release, fans of the singer have been scrambling to figure out who “Becky with the good hair” is and they’ve been pointing the finger at fashion designer Rachel Roy. But is Roy really to blame for Bey’s marital issues or is she just being exploited for sales?
For those that don’t know, Roy made a name for herself in the industry as a successful high fashion designer and she was also once married to Jay’s former business partner, Damon Dash. Roy never seemed to have a bad connection with Jay or Bey until that infamous night at the 2014 MET Gala when Bey’s sister, Solange, famously attacked Jay in an elevator while Bey watched.
At the time, rumors were flying that Solange attacked Jay because he was cheating on Bey and sources claimed that Solange had berated Roy earlier in the night for allegedly being the other woman.
Well, when Bey’s new visual album dropped and her infidelity revelation became public, members of her infamous BeyHive fanbase immediately assumed that Roy was “Becky with the good hair” thanks to a now-deleted post from Roy in which she captioned a photo of herself on a night out on the town with “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. live in the light #nodramaqueens.”
The BeyHive immediately began their online attack on Roy and began flooding her social media pages with shade and death threats. The online bullying became so bad that some people speculate that Roy cancelled a recent public appearance to avoid running into any of Bey’s Stans.
Well, yesterday, Wendy Williams spoke about the drama on her talk show and claimed that she believes Bey is paying off Roy in a fabricated scandal to help sell her album.
“So Rachel Roy, first of all, you’re not this fighting girl,” Williams began. “Unless you’re on Jay Z and Beyoncé’s payroll, and they pay you to mix it up for I guess sales for the Lemonade.”
She continued, “Quite frankly, I wish Beyoncé had held off on the album after Prince. Like, the weekend had blown over. And Bill Cosby, don’t get beside yourself. Long after Prince is gone, and Beyoncé and Jay Z are still together, we are going to circle back around and still deal with you.”
Well, considering how major the scandal is and how anticipated any Bey album is, we doubt that Bey needed Roy to help sell records. And considering that “Stans” are also suspicious that Jay’s former protégé Rita Ora is “Becky with the good hair,” Bey would have to be paying a pretty penny to more than just Roy for all of this publicity.
Do you believe that Bey is paying off Roy? Do you think Roy is “Becky”? Let us know in the comments.
