Rickey Smiley For Real (the new reality series) had such a successful run on season one, TV One executives green-lit the series for a second season. Roger Bobb, CEO of Bobbcat Films (and one of the executive producers of the show), credits Smiley’s organic humor and the stern parenting he adopted from his own grandmother as one of the key reasons the sitcom is hilarious from start to finish. Bobb also credits the show’s strong comedic overtone because Smiley gets to be his naturally funny and creative self.
We got a chance to catch up with Smiley and Da Brat on the red carpet at the premiere and they both credited their newfound strong relationship to grandma parenting, similar likes and dislikes and the fact they are both no-nonsense.
“It feels like we are just both the same person. We have so many similar qualities. I feel like it’s a reason I came into his life and him into mine and I believe this is just a blessing. I love being part of the TV show and ‘Dish Nation.’ You will love the show because it’s very family oriented and you will get to see how Rickey interacts with his kids and his disciplinary tactics. It’s the type of show you can sit and watch with your grandmother. I want to say it’s like the modern-day Bill Cosby show but man, I don’t want to use Bill Cosby’s name because you know he has all them charges now,” said Da Brat.
