Chicago police are on the lookout for Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor after the controversial entertainer threatened suicide on Thursday, June 23, reports TMZ. Or so we thought.
According to DNA Info, a call came in from Dublin police in Ireland, around 5:30 p.m. local time, to CPD who then “issued an all-call radio message,” alerting officers to keep their eyes peeled for O’Connor. “Sinead O’Connor called and said ‘I’m on a bridge in Chicago and I’m going to jump,” Irish authorities reportedly told Chicago police.
However, authorities did not confirm the call was specifically for the “Take Me to Church” vocalist.
Fast forward a day later and it appears O’Connor has resurfaced, refuting all claims she was suicidal and threatened to jump off a bridge. “Oh and by the way it’s bullsh*t I jumped off a bridge,” she wrote via Twitter, adding “some stupid bitch up at Swords Garda station decided she’d like to throw a bit of false and malicious gossip about is all.”
“AM FAR TOO F*CKING HAPPY FOR THAT!!” she continued.
Oddly enough, O’Connor may just be telling the truth, as police spokesperson Officer Thomas Sweeney said officers spotted someone on the verge of jumping off a bridge over a Chicago expressway, but it turned out to be a 54-year-old man. He was taken to a hospital.
Meanwhile, O’ Connor, who hadn’t engaged in any social media shenanigans since June 5, additionally went on an odd rant about Britain’s decision to exit the European Union, a move she says is a victory for Ireland.
“IRELAND IS OFFICIALLY NO LONGER OWNED BY BRITAIN!!!!,” she wrote in caps. “CONGRATS TO EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD WHO EVER DIED FOR THE CAUSE OF IRISH FREEDOM, AND ALSO TO ALL THOSE INCLUDING MYSELF, WHO HAVE BEEN PERSECUTED MERCILESSLY BY THE IRISH SO CALLED FREE-STATE FOR HAVING DECLARED SUPPORT FOR SINN FEIN AND THE REPUBLICAN MOVEMENT.”
The disturbing news comes just one month after the 49-year-old disappeared in Wilmette, a Chicago suburb. In case you missed it, in mid-May, O’Connor failed to return from an early morning bike ride and was classified as “missing suicidal.”
Of course, this is not the first time the troubled star has made threats of suicide. In 2011, police visited her after she reportedly posted a string of suicidal tweets. Then in 2015, O’Connor once again threatened to take her life after penning a suicide note on Facebook, claiming she’d overdosed. Fortunately, the Irish star was found unharmed.
