There used to be a time in Hollywood when playing a gay character was either extremely taboo or it was the vehicle that launched an actor to critical acclaim and a possible Oscar nomination. These days, though, the social climate around homosexuality has changed so much that playing gay isn’t so much of a shock anymore. However, for some actors, playing gay is okay, but only with limits. And that looks like it might be the case with aspiring actor Justin Bieber because according to a new report, he is refusing a movie role because it requires him to have a gay love scene.
According to media reports, Bieber was recently offered the part of a young pop star in a movie treatment for the upcoming film Uber Girl. Lighthouse Entertainment LA and Cinema Epoch are still shopping the treatment around Hollywood as they look for a major movie studio to co-produce the film.
In the film, which is being described as a coming-of-age story, Bieber wouldn’t necessarily be flexing much of his acting chops considering he’s already a pop star in real life.
However, part of the role that’s allegedly troubling him is that he would be required to act out a sex scene with another man on camera and reportedly that’s taking things too far for Bieber.
“He won’t take the part unless the sex scene with him and one of the male backup dancers is taken out of the final script,” co-writer Pete O’Neill reportedly said in a new interview.
But according to the reports, Bieber isn’t the only celeb that O’Neill wants to cast in the film. He’s also looking at Bieber’s former flame Selena Gomez, as well as Ariana Grande and Kiernan Shipka.
Well, if the role is too much for Bieber, he can certainly turn it down; we’re sure there are tons of established actors who are willing to take the role instead.
