It’s rare to see any of the following celebs without flawless face beats, thanks to their makeup artists. However, as easy as they make it look, it wasn’t always that way. Many reveal that behind the scenes, the experts don’t always have that expertise extended to perfecting makeup, looks, and glowing skin on Black women, leading many of them to create companies that do just that.
Iman
The supermodel and super successful entrepreneur was a pioneer in creating makeup specifically for women of color. So, it’s great that so many stars are now looking to create even more options for Black women. Iman Cosmetics covers not only makeup for eyes, lips, and face but also skin care, as well.
Kelly Rowland
The award winning singer, producer and one third of Destiny’s Child is now joining the business side of the beauty industry. She’s creating a new line along with her makeup artist, Sheika Daley, and will be starting off with a custom line of eyelashes as their first offering. Exciting! And it doesn’t stop there with her as well. She will also be creating a skincare line. She recently spoke with USA Today, stating:
“I’m also the type of person that feels like we don’t need to be covered up all the time, so I want to eventually get into skin care as well, but I got to pace myself. I keep having all these great ideas. Like, they’re all on my vision board, but I have to pace myself.”
Tyra Banks
The trailblazing supermodel, entrepreneur, and mother, has always been setting trends, with Emmy Award winning shows like The Tyra Banks Show, America’s Next Top Model, The Fab Life, and of course, the Smize. Tyra Beauty, a makeup line for the eyes, lips, and face that is an extension of her brand, also helps women become their own bosses by selling Tyra Beauty as Beautytainers. Similar to Mary Kay, the company allows women to create their own businesses by selling makeup online or by having parties.
Angela Bassett
Teaming up with her dermatologist, the Golden Globe Award winning actress launched the line Darker Skin Tones this past month. Since she is the epitome of “Black don’t crack,” it was only right. The line focuses on things like hyperpigmentation and inflammation, and includes serums, creams, and cleansers.
Rihanna
Last year, this icon launched Fr8me, a beauty and stylist agency based in LA. We all know about her collaboration with MAC Cosmetics, RiRi Hearts MAC, a line that remained in very high demand and sold out frequently. Well, very soon, she will grace us with Fenty Beauty By Rihanna in 2017.
