Even though Black Friday made a jumpstart ton Thursday, there are still quite a few great deal for you to catch. It’s a race to become the biggest brand — Black Friday, which in the last few years creeps up Thursday afternoon (as opposed to the traditional day after Thanksgiving), is vying to be the biggest shopping day before Christmas.
Macy’s, Walmart, Target and more opened on Thursday evening in what will likely be a new holiday tradition.
The National Retailers Foundation says online spending over the three-day bonanza will reach an eye-catching $8.4B, which translates into new jobs.
“Consumers have seen steady job and income gains throughout the year, resulting in continued confidence and the greater use of credit, which bodes well for more spending throughout the holiday season,” NRF Chief Economist Jack Kleinhenz said. “Increased geopolitical uncertainty, the presidential election outcome and unseasonably warm weather are the main issues at play with the greatest potential to shake consumer confidence and impact shopping patterns.”
“However, the economic spending power of the consumer is resilient and it should never be underestimated,” continued Kleinhenz.
The NRF’s annual holiday shopping forecast expects $3.05B on Black Friday and $3.36B on Cyber Monday, which would mean it is the biggest shopping day of all time.
Other forecasters project overall holiday spending will rise by 3.6 percent, which would be a bigger jump than the average seen over the past seven years.
