The result of the 2016 presidential election has been of concern and now President Barack Obama has stepped into the discussion. Today, President Obama ordered a full review into 2016 election hacking by Russia. This is an unprecedented move in the history of the United States of America. Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism Adviser Lisa Monaco said today, “The president has directed the Intelligence Community to conduct a full review of what happened during the 2016 election process. It is to capture lessons learned from that and to report to a range of stakeholders. This is consistent with the work that we did over the summer to engage Congress on the threats that we were seeing.”

Monaco said the administration would be mindful of the consequences of revealing the results of their review publicly. It is expected that the review will completed before  Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.

This news comes as there is a national outcry for members of the Electoral College to become “faithless electors” and not cast their vote for Trump. Failed 2016 Green Party candidate Jill Stein has raised millions to start a recount process in Michigan that has met resistance. Recently, a federal judge and the state Board of Canvassers after only three days of counting ballots stopped the process citing the financial burden of the recount.

Trump stated early during his campaign that the political system was rigged and if he was not elected the vote was stolen. Trump also stated during his campaign that Russia should continue hacking the US to find out more secrets and release them like Wikkileaks, It was the first time that a presidential candidate called for a cyber attack by a foreign nation against the United States. Trump has also expressed admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his military actions against ISIS in Syria.
