A family in San Antonio, Texas placed their trust in Esmeralda Medellin, 18. Medellin was hired by the family to serve as a babysitter, but instead of protecting, she allegedly sexually abused the family’s child.

According to MySanAntonio, the incident occurred in March when Medellin was hired to babysit a 4-year-old boy. When the boy’s family returned, he told his mother that Medellin forced him to perform a sex act and she performed a sex act on him. The boy’s mother called police when Medellin went into the restroom. She was eventually arrested and taken to the hospital where she and the child were examined for sexual assault. After the examination, police allowed Medellin to go home.

However, the results from the tests arrived in August and it revealed that the boy’s DNA was on Medellin’s breast and a male’s DNA was found on her genitals. Medellin was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault.

The incident sheds light on why parents must always use precaution when it comes to protecting their children. Parents must talk to their children about improper touching and ask if someone has violated their space. Children must always be given the confidence to report incidents that they may encounter when dealing with adults. Even if it involves a close friend or family member, parents must give their children the freedom to speak up if they encounter abuse. If the babysitter comes to the home, parents can set up cameras and recording devices that will monitor the babysitter and the child at all times.

Medellin will face decades in prison if found guilty of sexual abuse on a minor. She has been released on $75K bail.
