1. Jemele Hill
No one personified the unappreciated Black woman in sports journalism more than Jemele Hill. After the White House, the 45th President of the United States, and countless internet users called for her job to be cut, Hill stood in her spot and still delivered her honest opinions on a daily basis. Hill represents what a woman in sports journalism should be, just as opinionated as her male counterparts.
Like Martin, she came up through the ranks as one of the few Black female sports columnists in the country. She then went from one debate show to another and ultimately became the co-anchor of the SC6, the SportsCenter program that is unapologetically Black and the one program on the network that represents the culture. SC6 launched in February and has now made it through the end of 2017 through all of the criticism of Hill’s views and the network’s brutal cuts.
