The Payless shoe store chain has pulled off a massive prank that sent shockwaves through the LA fashion elite crowd. The discount shoe chain opened a pop-up store with the name Palessi and tricked the invited upscale shoppers to a one-of-a-kind party and shopping spree. Attendees paid hundreds to purchase shoes that normally cost $19.99.

According to the company’s Facebook page “See fashionistas pay as much as $640 for Payless shoes you can get for $19.99 this holiday season! (Don’t worry, we gave them their money back).”
