Certified personal trainer Maria More is empowering women through fitness

Certified personal trainer Maria More is whipping women into shape with MPowered Fitness for Women, a web-based program that has helped thousands of women worldwide reach their fitness goals. More specializes in fitness nutrition, is passionate about family and aims to “live by example” while inspiring others to do the same.


Rolling out recently sat down with More to hear her take on her career and the cultural climate for Black women in the industry.


As a Black woman, what is your superpower?

I consider my “superpowers” to be compassion, empathy and determination. These powerful characteristics have given me the ability to enhance my life and the lives of the people I encounter daily.


What thoughtful or encouraging piece of advice would you give to your younger self? 

I’d say to be diligent but also patient. I would tell my younger self that rushing things can ruin things, and as long as I stay honest and committed to the goals I set for myself, things will work out fine.

Why is it important for women of color to lead and work in leadership roles and decision-making capacities?

In today’s world, women are the lead decision makers. Women of color understand other women of color and should be represented in leadership roles.

Why is it important for experienced Black women to reach back and help younger women of color?

Seasoned women of color have the unique gift of past experience that younger women don’t. I truly believe that it takes a leader to create a leader. This is why we must also reach back and make sure we keep each other lifted.

What are three success habits you implement in your daily routine to maintain your success, sanity and peace of mind? 

1. Waking up early, around 4:30 a.m. most days. This allows me to get a jump start on my day with very minimal interruptions.

2. Prioritizing my “to-do” list. This keeps me on track and keeps me focused on getting my most important tasks done first.

3. Exercise. Staying physically active keeps me in a good mood and gives me a daily sense of accomplishment.
