A mother faces jail time after her child was molested and she took matters into her own hands. Connie Serbu, 43, is currently on trial in Naples, Florida, for the crime, which took place in 2016.
Serbu’s 6-year-old daughter told her that she was molested by Xavier Sierra, a family friend, according to Naples Daily News. After discussing the incident with her daughter, Serbu decided to take action.
She reportedly told her husband to be prepared to take care of their two children alone because “she was going to do something.” Serbu reached out to Sierra, 18, and asked him to help her with some items that would lead to a paid opportunity.
Serbu and her mentally disabled brother, John Vargas, purchased two handguns, two stun guns, an ice pick and a potato that served as a silencer for one of the handguns.
On July 7, 2019, the two picked up Sierra in a van and confronted him about the alleged rape while driving him to a remote location. Sierra was able to jump out of the van and began running. Serbu and Vargas gave chase and eventually caught up with Sierra.
Vargas and Sierra began tussling as Sierra reached to take the handguns from Vargas. Sierra was able to retrieve one of the guns and shot Vargas. However, Vargas was also able to shoot Sierra multiple times. They both died at the scene.
When police arrived at the wooded area, Serbu confessed to the crime and told authorities that she did it because Sierra raped her daughter.
Serbu faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection to Sierra’s death.
