4 observations about the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

Blood Clots: There is some data that suggests one troubling side effect of receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine is the risk of increasing blood coagulation. Blood clots can be fatal. The U.K.’s health and vaccine regulators just issued a change of guidance over who should have the shot, suggesting that anyone under the age of 30 should receive an alternative vaccine, as in rare circumstances, it may lead to serious blood clot disorders. Although this is based on reports of rare blood clotting disorders in a small number of vaccinated individuals and a tenable causal link between the vaccine and rare thrombotic side effects that have been observed, scientists prefer to error on the side of caution.

Where it is being used: As it stands, several nations have restricted the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine. Among these are Belgium, Italy, Australia, and Spain, due to the U.K. and European regulators suggesting that there might be a connection between the shot and this deadly blood clotting.

The is just one of several vaccines developed thus far in the United States, China, Russia and the European Union. There will continue to be more information, data and research on its efficacy and effectiveness as researchers and scientists continue to explore this new disease.
